What we're all about...
The International Stunt School is recognized and licensed by the State of Washington and the Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board as a legitimate professional stunt training facility that adheres to those rules set forth for Vocational Schools: (RCW) 28C.10 and
(WAC) 490-105.
This Mission Statement pertains primarily to our standard
3 week trainings that we have been offering for the past 15 years. To better acquaint yourself with our master class please click on "aerial" for further details.
Individuals interested in stunt training should explore various options and determine what best suits their needs. There are no "legal" stunt schools. There are registered schools and there are licensed schools. We are both registered and licensed!
The United Stuntmen's Association annual stunt trainings are intended for those individuals interested in pursuing a career as "stunt performers" or as actors who want to perform his or her own basic stunts.
The training(s) is not a casual summer camp environment, nor is it a "boot camp". It is a "professional" oriented training facility intended as a means whereby individuals can explore their potential in a demanding occupation which has it's many rewards and at times, physical risks.
When you consider that the training comprises 150 hours of instruction training over a 3 week period, it becomes clear that a significant amount of material is covered during that time by first rate instructors who teach in those stunt areas in which they specialize. A total of 12 instructors make up the core of the teaching staff.
A common question asked regarding the training is "How do you cover so many areas of instruction within a three week agenda?" Quite simply, we run the equivalent of a "three ring circus", whereby the participants are moving from one arena to another constantly staying active and involved thus wasting little of their training time.
As an example, we run fire, horses and ratchet work at the same time during the training. Other areas of instruction vary day to day in a similar fashion. With a core of 12 instructors and two assistants, as many as 6 principle instructors can be teaching their "specialty" on a given day with smaller numbers of students getting more individual attention.
Another area of interest to prospective participants involve the "stunt business" itself. We spend a significant amount of classroom time focusing on "Networking" the business. The stunt industry is covered from A-Z. Everything from networking procedure to "set" protocol to film language is covered thoroughly. The business seminars are considered one of the most valuable aspects of the training.
As an integral part of the training, a "hot set" environment exists with cameras and monitors utilized to show the participants where they have "played" the camera successfully and where they need to focus more. A professional atmosphere is demanded when colleagues are on camera. "Discipline" is key to the training and a lack of respect for others in the training is not tolerated.
There are a number of criteria a person considering a career in the stunt industry should consider when contemplating a stunt school and/or stunt training facility:
1. How many hours of training are being offered in a given training session?
2. After a breakdown of hours, how much does it cost the applicant per instructional hour?
3. Does the number of weeks fit your agenda?
4. How many instructors are employed during the training session and are they specialists in the area in which they teach?
5. How many stunt areas are being offered? (Is precision driving & wire work among those areas?)
6. Does the training offer business seminars on networking the industry?
7. Are "testimonials" available from former students who have attended prior sessions?
The United Stuntmen's Association INTERNATIONAL STUNT SCHOOL is regarded by many stunt professionals in the industry as the most thorough and all-encompassing stunt training facility in North America, with a number of the participants now coming from the international community.
Some of the countries that have been represented by the varied participants over the years include:
United States Canada
Great Britain Scotland
Ireland Norway
Sweden Denmark
Finland Germany
Hungary Iceland
New Zealand Australia
Portugal Cyprus
Brazil Belgium
Mexico South Africa
Israel Spain
Poland Switzerland
Italy Singapore
International participants are encouraged to communicate via 'e-mail' to expedite their interest in the training. This is also encouraged amongst those individuals in North America. It needs to be noted that due to ramifications involving 9/11 (et al.), some of our internationals are being scrutinized more by the U.S.Immigration authorities upon arrival to this country. As this is beyond our control, we urge our internationals to contact us months in advance of departure to the U.S. so we can help you move through the immigration process more smoothly. So far we have had no complications.
Interested parties should keep in mind that the training fills to capacity every year! The date whereby classes become filled is routinely around May 1st. The school continues to enhance its reputation year to year and students need to understand that there are a limited number of spaces and the demand for those spaces is increasing annually.
We have put into policy an age restriction. At this point in time we have limited the enrollment to those individuals who are 20 years and older. We have provided a "loop hole" where mature, disciplined students between 18 and 20 can petition to get into the training. A special allowance can be made on a case by case basis for those students we feel are mature enough to handle the demands of a very demanding profession.
The International Stunt School is a very well run program with all of the students needs addressed to make their training as efficient and thorough as possible. General information can be found on our web site "links". Please note that an "in-depth" description of every class offered in the training would require volumes of written material from the school. Suffice it to say that every class covers the required discipline in substantial detail. All of the classes are included because we feel they are absolutely necessary for any stunt performer to have in his repertoire. You can view our facilities and the quality of the instruction on our link "video demos".If you have specific questions about any of the areas of instruction, feel free to contact us via telephone (email internationally). We welcome the opportunity to exchange information "first hand" as we too want to know more about you and how you might fit into the training program. We make every effort to screen each student to inform them as to what they should expect from us and what we will expect from them. More specific information ranging from class scheduling to airport pickups to rules and regulations to weather, required equipment, clothing, facilities, food, transportation, and more are detailed in our "Stunt Packets" that are sent to all of our "attending participants". It is a sizable document that discusses everything about the training in detail. Please note that the stunt packets are only given to those individuals who have signed up for the training and have paid their deposit. If you need further detailed information please email us at stuntjeff@charter.net or call us at 509-735-7138. Don't request catalogues or brochures as we have made every effort to put the bulk of our information on our web site www.stuntschool.com.
Housing is arranged by our staff. Students pay a discounted $27.00 rate at our housing accommodation. The Travelers Inn where we reside for all our training sessions this summer will offer a free continental breakfast as part of the reduced daily rate. We will provide club vans to transport our "Travelers" students to and from the various training sights. There are ample markets, restaurants, and other venues within walking distance of the accommodation.
Several of our past students are now working in the stunt business, with many living in Los Angeles. The success ratio for prior students is exceptionally high. There are also several working in live "stunt shows" at various theme parks around the country (Six Flags and Disney in particular). Former USA students have created two websites(http://familylobby.com/stuntfamily) and (http://groups.myspace.com/usastunt) whereby they can visit and stay in touch with each other regarding the stunt industry and their efforts to be a part of it.
See the testimonials link regarding our former students.
The training is intended for serious minded students with a strong desire to fulfill their dreams of becoming professional "Stunt Performers." The training is not intended for individuals who lack the necessary maturity and discipline to progress in a demanding profession. Disruptive behavior on the part of any participant attending the training can be grounds for removal from the program. Conduct that undermines the integrity and progression of the school curriculum cannot, and will not be tolerated. There are too many individuals who sacrifice a great deal to attend the training and they will not be compromised for the sake of a disruptive participant.
Interested applicants can contact Jeff (Ish) Thomason or Meaghan Lawler for further information regarding the Year 2007 International Stunt School.

StuntKids.com is not an agency.rnrnThe intent of StuntKids.com is to connect kids, with talent, to people who have a demand for that talent.rnrnCommercial agents, answering services, casting directors, and stunt coordinators visit the web site looking for young adults to perform stunts in commercials, television and movies.rnrnFor example, a commercial agent was looking for a boy 13-15 years old to ride a bicycle down a sidewalk while throwing newspapers. At one point a newspaper hits him and he flies off his bicycle.rnrnOn another occasion, a stunt coordinator was looking for an 18-19 year old to do an 80' bungee jump for an anti-smoking commercial.rnrnThere was a call to locate a stunt double for Haley Joel Osement, the young boy in "The Sixth Sense". One of the StuntKids on the web site went on the interview and got the job working on "A.I.".rnrnA stunt coordinator from International Stunt Association hired two kids to work on a Gateway commercial.rnrnRecently, one of the younger kids on the website did a stunt on "Friends" and got his SAG card.rnrnThis demand for talent is one reason why StuntKids.com was created.rn
